Manchester City has launched a new stadium experience in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Society, the FA’s Charity Partner for the 2022/23 season.
The new stadium experience, called ‘Remincity Memory Walks’, is designed to reconnect football supporters with mild and moderate forms of dementia to the Manchester City Football Club.
The tours will last 70 minutes and will be guided by specialist tour guides that will guide the supporters through the history of the club.
Supporters living with dementia will be able to visit key areas of the stadium including the home team dressing room, the press conference areas and the tours exhibition space.
The Reminiscity Memory Walks will take place on selected weekday mornings at 10.30 am. The dates for the 2022/23 season are: Thursday 22 September, Tuesday 18 October and Thursday 17 November.
Manchester City announced that, in addition to these dates, more tours will be announced over the course of 2022/23 season.
The walks are charged at £25 per person with personal assistants and carers entering free of charge.
Manchester City’s Reminiscity Memory Walks are inspired by City in the Community’s Reminiscity programme, which supports people in Manchester who live with mild to moderate forms of dementia.
Founded in 1986, City in the Community supports people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football.
By 2025, it is expected more than one million people in the UK will live with dementia, with many millions more carers, partners, families and friends affected.
Keeping active can reduce the risk of dementia, and evidence suggests that being active can slow the progression of dementia. The sport and physical activity sector can therefore play a crucial role in tackling the social and economic impact of dementia.
Projects like the one launched by Manchester City can improve the life of people living with dementia while giving them a momentary distraction from their routines.
